STING HISTORY

The Herndon STING formed in Summer 2002 as a U9 travel soccer team of Herndon Youth Soccer (HYS), ending with a 5-3 record in our first (Fall) season of the Old Dominion Soccer League (ODSL). Over the following winter we won the U9/U10 Girls Freedom Division of Soccer Academy's Soccer Fiesta Indoor Soccer Session, but had to forfeit the championship game to attend the VaBlast Soccer Blastoff at the Beach where we took home the Champions' trophies by winning the U9 Girls Gold bracket.  We also went on to win the ODSL regular season Division Red in Spring 2003 with a 7-1 record.

Upon moving up an age level in Summer 2003 we placed 3rd (out of 9 teams) in the U10 Girls Premier bracket of the Dulles National Soccer Tournament (DNST). In Fall 2003 we won the U10 Girls Premier brackets of the PVSL Pocoshock Soccer Tournament over Columbus Day Weekend (Chesterfield, VA) and the Hunt Country Classic (Warrenton, VA) in November. We finished the ODSL U10 Girls regular season in Fall 2003 with a 5-3 record.

In Winter 2003/2004 we went undefeated to win the U10 Girls Classic Division West in the inaugural indoor soccer session at the Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling, VA. We later played up an age level to tie for 2nd place (of 9 teams) in the U11 Girls Classic League of the second indoor soccer session at the Dulles Sportsplex.

We capped off the Spring 2004 regular season with the runner-up finish in Division 2 of the ODSL, winning a fourth tournament (in five tries) by capturing the Williamsburg, VA Sixes U10 Girls Soccer title without allowing a single goal, and a runner-up finish in the U10 Girls Premier bracket of the Kicks4Kids Charity Soccer Tournament, Hershey, PA in June. We were finalists in the U11G Premier bracket of the 2004 Dulles National Tourney in August, then took home the U11 champions' gold cannon trophies at the Battlefield Classic Tournament in October. We played in the Beat Division of WAGS in Fall 2004.

In Winter of 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 we entered two teams into the indoor soccer sessions at the Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling. We played in the Freedom Division of WAGS in Spring 2005.  In Fall 2005 we opened up play in the WAGS U11 Teal Division with back-to-back tournament championships at the 2005 Dulles National Tournament and the PWSI Toys-for-Tot Tournament. We were accepted to the WAGS tournament, but did not get a chance to compete due to cancellation of the tournament. We completed the WAGS Fall Season in first place with a 42-2 goal differential, and played up at U13 in the MCSA tournament to finish with a record of four ties against some strong competition.

In Spring 2006 we competed in the inaugural Arlington tournament, as well as the Beach FC Tournament where we finished in 3rd place. We competed in WAGS Division 2  and ended that season with our entry  into The Virginian Soccer Tournament, Premier bracket. Thereafter, we took home champions trophies for winning the U13G Premier bracket of the 2006 DNST presented by DC United in August, and were finalists in the U13G Premier bracket of the PWSI Invitational in September.

In Winter of 2007/2008 we again played indoor soccer at the Dulles Sportsplex.  In Spring 2008 we competed in Division 3 of WAGS, and despite numerous injuries that resulted in only one substitute for most games, we gave our all every time for which we eventually finished in the runner-up spot in the final standings.  We also won a WAGS Sportsmanship award for Spring 2008.  In tournament play, we did not drop any games in the 2008 Stafford St Patrick's Day Tournament, and we won the U14G White division of the 2008 Prince William Soccer Icebreaker Tournament in March 2008.  In Summer 2008 we played in the Dulles Sportsplex's indoor soccer session where we competed against several older age teams.

In the Fall 2008 preseason we did not drop any games in the 2008 DNST presented by DC United, where we took home finalist trophies for U15G Premier division. We competed against excellent competition, even winning against a top state-ranked South Carolina team, in the 2008 Adidas Labor Day Shootout.  We moved up in age group to U15 and competed in Division 2 of WAGS in Fall 2008, where we opened up the 2008 Virginia State Cup play with an impressive 6-3 win, and finished in third place in WAGS standings.
